Willie Mae Shults Edwards Hicks was born on March 18, 1931 in Brown County, Texas and passed in Denver City, Texas on February 1, 2026. She was the daughter of Raymond and Florence Shults and was preceded in death by her parents; brother, James Shults, and husbands Wayne Edwards and Herbert Hicks. Survivors who loved her and will miss her are her daughters, Sandra Mitchell and husband David, Barbara Wagner and husband Charlie; grandchildren Amy Mitchell, Chip Mitchell, Kenny Hemmeline and wife Alisha; great grandchildren Mitchell Massey and wife Jennifer, Marcus Massey, Micah Massey, Avery Boiles, Preston Mitchell, Levi Mitchell, Sammie Mitchell, Maddi Tuttle, Becca McCleskey, Hunter Hemmeline and wife Logan, Holly Hemmeline, Hudson Hemmeline, Avery Stake; great great granddaughter Juniper Massey; sister-in-law Helen Shults, and the extended family of Herbert Hicks.
Willie graduated from Hobbs High School where she met and later married Wayne Edwards on August 1, 1948. They moved to Denver City Texas in 1960 where they were members of First Baptist Church and enjoyed an active social and service life together for 50 years. She was active in Tejas Study Club, holding several offices, and a member of Beta Sigma Phi. She enjoyed entertaining, especially in their Ruidoso home, playing 42 and bridge. Even as recently as Christmas, she played left-right-center with her family. She was always a good sport but did like to win. She was extremely proud of her family, and Mimi might even be known to slip the grands a dollar or two. She was a dedicated secretary for Harrison Well Service for 40 years before her retirement.
Willie married Herbert Hicks in 2008. They moved to Ruidoso, and then to Lubbock where they were members of Bacon Heights Baptist Church.
Visitation will be held at Ratliff Funeral Home, Denver City, from 5:30-7:00, February 6th. A celebration of life graveside service will be held at the Denver City Cemetery, Saturday, February 7th at 11:00.
