Seminole, Texas...Funeral mass for Wayne Mixon, 87, of Seminole, will be celebrated on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, at 11:00 A.M., in St. James Catholic Church, with Father Jose Gonzalez, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Ratliff Funeral Home.
Wayne passed away Saturday, January 4th in Seminole. He was born June 1, 1937, in Runge, Texas to Belle Mixon and Mary Brown Mixon. Wayne and Linda Kendrick Mixon were married in Hobbs, NM on August 17, 1973. He moved to Seminole and established Ocho Gin which he co-owned and managed for over 36 years before he retired. During his career he has served as the president of the Texas Independent Ginner Assn., The National Cotton Ginners Assn, and the Texas Cotton Ginners Assn. Wayne received the Texas Cotton Ginner of the Year award in 1986 from TCGA and the The Horace Hayden Award in 1988 from NCGA. During his tenure as co-owner and manager Ocho Gin was noted to be the trailblazer of automation and technology of the cotton ginning industry. Wayne was also a former board member of the West Texas National Bank and had served as the mayor of Seminole for 14 years. He loved playing golf everyday with his friends and had a standing tee time at the Gaines County Golf Course.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, Belle and Mary Mixon, his grandson, Kyle Mixon, two sisters, Geraldine Hoskins, Rose Elaine Dubois, and his brother, Bill Mixon.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Linda Mixon; his children, Nancy Ausman and husband, Robert, Jay Mixon and wife, Glenda, Keith Mixon and wife, Kim, Todd Winegar, and Cindi White and husband, Tommy. A sister, Neccia Davenport and husband, Tom; his eight grandchildren, Lindsey Stewart and husband, Scott, Lauren Arnett, Kourtney Mixon, Justin Janak and wife Lesley, Kerry Mixon, Thomas Cleveland and wife, Lexi, Taylor Ortiz and wife, Marion Murphy, and Tiffany White. His eight great grandchildren, Audrey Stewart, Ellie Stewart, Tyler Albers, Cooper Janak, Case Janak, Beckham Cleveland, Rowyn Cleveland, and Barritt Cleveland. Also, with his brothers and sisters in law, Sandy and George Stewart, Becky and Rick Sterling, Kathryn and Warren McDougall, Byron and Ilene Kendrick along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Family and Friends visitation will be Tuesday from 4:00 – 5:30 P.M., in the Ratliff Funeral Home Chapel.
