Wanda Kay (Smith) Gay was born on October 13, 1941, in Brownfield, Texas to O.B. and
Anna Bell Smith. Kay passed away on October 28, 2025, after a courageous battle with
cancer.
Kay was a lifelong member of the Seminole, Texas, community contributing to a variety of
clubs and groups over the years. She enjoyed sharing her passion and extraordinary talent
for porcelain painting through the local China club. Kay was an avid gardener and looked
forward to her monthly Garden Club meetings for an opportunity to share her prized
cuttings or articles she had read with her friends. The Seminole Senior Center was a
favorite place for Kay to catch up with friends, play bingo and share stories over laughter
and good meals.
Kay was an adventurer. She enjoyed traveling, exploring new places, and fishing for hours. The
shopping, restaurants and culture of Santa Fe held a special place in her heart. When Kay
married Robert “Bob” Gay, a union of fun, laughter and adoration blessed their lives.
Our Honey Kay was the glue that held the family together. Not one birthday went without
the perfect greeting card, chocolate cake and balloons. She wasn’t scared to tell the truth,
give her opinion or offer her guided wisdom.
Kay was proceeded in death by her parents, brother Dean Smith, sister Melba Hughes and
great niece Kaci Fairchild.
She will be greatly missed by her surviving family: niece, D’Ann Blackmon and husband
Dusty, nephew Jerry Hughes and wife Vicki, nephew Mark Hughes and wife Gloria. Six great
nieces and nephews: Katlin Langehennig and husband Matt, Dallas Garza and husband
Anthony, Kolt Blackmon, Peyton Patterson and husband Hayden, Heather Carpenter and
husband Brian and Haley Hughes. Honey Kay left a lasting impression on her ten great,
great nieces and nephews, lovingly referred to as her “Little Darlings.”
