Wanda Elaine Smith, the daughter of Woodrow and Wanda Phillips, was born in Houston, Tx in 1943 and went home with her Heavenly Father on Wednesday, May 4th, 2022.
After spending some of her childhood in Tyler, Wanda, along with her family, moved to Midland, Tx in 1951. While in Midland, Wanda attended Midland High School, and excelled as a twirler and flute player. She HATED Math!! Wanda graduated from MHS in the Spring of 1962.
After graduation, Wanda attended Sul Ross State University and it was there that she met the love of her life, Kenney A Smith. After dating and attending school for a year, they were married on September 7, 1963. Upon finishing his degree, Kenney and Wanda welcomed the birth of their first son, Rohn, and moved to Carlsbad, NM where Kenney was employed as a teacher/coach. The Family moved to Denver City in 1965 and had their second son, Chad, in June of 1966. Wanda worked as the County Tax Assessor for 27 years and proudly served the people of Yoakum County. Being an elected official, Wanda ran for most of her career unopposed, which is a testament to her work ethic and caring attitude. Wanda and Kenney remained in Denver City until the time of their passing!
Wanda is preceded in death by her son, Rohn Smith and her husband Kenney.
She is survived in death by her son Chad Smith of Monahans and grandsons Tyler Smith of Toledo Ohio, Logan Smith and daughter-in-law Alexa of Monahans and Michael Smith of Lubbock.
Graveside services for Wanda Elaine Smith, 78, of Denver City, Texas will be held at the Denver City Memorial Park with Rev. Kyle Streun officiating, under the direction of Ratliff Funeral Home of Denver City.
