Thomas Steven Barnes

Thomas Steven Barnes went to his Lord victoriously healed on July 16, 2024. Parkinson’s could not keep him from running into the arms of his Lord. Steve was born on December 7, 1955 in Pecos, Texas to Tom and Shirley Barnes. He attended and graduated from Plains High School, South Plains College, and Texas Tech University. In June 1992, Steve met the love of his life Mary Kay and got married on December 5, 1992 in Lubbock, Texas. He was blessed with a beautiful wife and two children, Cheri and Christopher. A few years later, they were blessed with Nicky becoming part of their lives. He was an amazing father to his children and a beloved grandfather to his nine grandchildren. Steve was loved by his community.

Steve is preceded in death by his parents, Tom and Shirley Barnes and nephew, Brady Houze.

Those to cherish his memory are his wife, Mary Barnes, his children, Cheri Lujan of Plains, Texas, Christopher Gscheidle and wife Megan of Lubbock, Texas, and Nicholas Gscheidle of Georgia; brothers that were his best friends, Garry, Jeff, and Randy; sister, Sandy Meyer and husband Robert of Slidell, Louisiana; brother-in-law, Danny Houze and wife Kim of Abilene, Texas and brother-in-law, Billy Houze and wife Robin of Columbus, Indiana; grandchildren, Ethan and Emily Gscheidle, Nate, Vic, Alezae, Elias, X-Zavion, Ariella and Aziel Lujan; nieces and nephews, Somer Emmitt and Eric Meyer, Jared Houze and wife Erica, Jake Houze and wife Chelsey, Cassidy Cowan and husband Alex, Carson Houze, Landon Houze, and several great nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, July 19, 2024 at First Baptist Church-Plains at 11:00 a.m. with Danny Houze officiating.
