Sheila D’Spain, 78, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on August 20, 2023, under the loving care of the staff of Kimble Hospital in Junction, Texas.
Sheila was born on August 4, 1945, in Kearney, Nebraska to Max Camp and Modene Fish Camp. Since the age of three, Sheila was lovingly raised by her mother, Modene and father, Murphy Bruns. On September 23, 1961, Sheila married Hubert D’Spain of London, Texas. Hubert and Sheila made their home in Junction and raised their three children.
Sheila started her working career with the Retail Merchants Association at her home while her children were young. After her children were in school, she later went to work for Cedar Fiber until she was elected the Treasurer for Kimble County in 1988. After serving Kimble County as Treasurer for almost 20 years, she retired in 2007.
Sheila was a talented pianist and organist. To share her love for the Lord, she played the organ at the Lutheran Church in Junction with her family seated next to her on the front row until the church doors closed. She continued using her talents as the organist at the First Baptist Church for many years, and loved playing the organ for Community Christmas Cantatas until she was no longer able to do so. Sheila was also a wonderful seamstress, sewing beautiful clothes for her children, and many cheerleader uniforms for her daughter and friends. Later, she constructed vests and other creative items from tanned deer and axis hides. Her creativity with both music and design was an expression of her God given talents.
Those left to cherish her memory are husband, Hubert, children Todd D’Spain and wife, Patti, Darla Rooke and husband, Kenny, Toby D’Spain, and of course her fur child Mr. Buddy; grandchildren Misty D’Spain, Shane D’Spain and wife, Ashley, Kayla Gregson and husband, Chad, and Paige Sullivan and husband, Shan. Sheila, better known as Gran, was blessed with many great grandchildren, Jackson D’Spain, Zayden, Zoey, and Mia D’Spain, Roan and Holt Gregson, and Hadley and Brennan Sullivan. Sheila is also survived by her extended Louisiana family Cody, Shelley, and Ellie LeBlanc. The family would also like to extend their appreciation to Susan Carlile, for her love and care of Gran.
Sheila is preceded in death by her mother, Modene Bruns, father, Max Camp, and her daddy, Murphy Bruns.
A celebration of life will be held at the First Baptist Church in Junction, Texas on Friday, August 25, 2023, at 6:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Ministerial Alliance and Kimble County Meals on Wheels.
Arrangements are under the direction and personal care of family Troy and Pam Ratliff and Ratliff Funeral Homes.
