Mary Ann Shelton

October 22, 1942 — July 15, 2025

Ann McMurry Shelton, 82, died peacefully on July 15, 2025. Ann was born October 1, 1942, to Bill and Katie McMurry in Kermit Texas. Ann and her family moved to Seminole in 1950. She graduated from Seminole High School in 1961, attended Texas Tech University for two years, and transferred to West Texas State in Canyon, Texas.


Ann and David were married in December 28, 1963 and both graduated from West Texas State in January 1964. From there, they moved to Alpine, Texas and got their Master’s Degrees at Sul Ross State University. Ann and David started teaching in Fort Stockton, Texas in 1965. They both loved their jobs and the people so much they also raised their sons there. After 33 years of teaching, which she loved, Ann retired. Ann, David, and their two boys moved back to Seminole, Texas in 2005.


Ann was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Fort Stockton, Texas then became a member at First Presbyterian Church in Seminole, Texas where she became an elder and helped deliver Meals on Wheels for 10 years.


Ann is preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Katie McMurry, brother-in-law, Charlie Benson, and sister-in-law, Nan Wallen (Harvey). Ann is survived by the love of her life husband, David Shelton; two sons, Bob Shelton and Ben Shelton (Angela) of Lexington, Kentucky; two precious grandsons, Logan and Sam Shelton of Lexington, Kentucky; one sister, Jeannie Benson of Corpus Christi, Texas; and nieces and nephews.


Visitation will be Wednesday, July 16, 2025, from 8:00 A.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Ratliff Funeral Home Chapel in Seminole, Texas. Graveside Services will be Thursday, July 17, 2025, at 11:00 A.M. at Gaines County Memorial Cemetery in Seminole, Texas with Pastor Chuck George officiating.


At family’s request, no flowers but memorials can be made out to First Presbyterian Church in Seminole, Texas, Salvation Army, or favorite charity.
