Marshel Dale Ivins

Marshel Dale Ivins, passed away on June 15, 2024, in Seminole, Texas.

Graveside services will be at Union Cemetery near Saint Jo/Capps Corner, Texas, under the direction of Ratliff Funeral Home.

Marshel was born on September 17, 1932, to Charlie and Jewel (McCubbins) Ivins in Montague County, Texas. He grew up on the family farm. Marshel was the oldest of nine children.

He met his wife, Chessie (Bradberry), as she was sitting up in a tree near a peach orchard outside of Saint Jo, Texas. Chessie was the youngest of a family of nine children. Marshel and Chessie were married on June 3, 1955, in Nocona, Texas.

Marshel served in the United States Army. He worked for Haliburton for 38 years, where he retired as a field supervisor. Part of that time, he was traveling the world with Chessie, where they lived in Tehran, Iran, and Perth, Australia. Marshel and Chessie loved traveling to see new sites, where they always made life-long friends. If they weren't going to visit friends, they were traveling to visit family. Marshel finished his career in Pampa, Texas, where they raised their two boys. He loved to fish, play golf, and play blackjack. In retirement, he was known across the river as quite the blackjack player, winning several tournaments, to his family's surprise. Marshel was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He affectionately referred to his grandchildren as “lap pups,” because he loved for them to come sit in his lap and talk to him. He was extremely proud of all four of them.

Marshel was preceded in death by his wife, Chessie Ivins, his parents, Jewel and Charlie Ivins, and two sisters, Lucy Edwards, and Edna Ivins, who died at a young age. He is survived by his son, Rob Ivins and wife Kimberly of Seminole, Texas; son, Mike Ivins and wife Amy of Idalou, Texas; brothers, Bill Ivins and wife Elda of Lubbock, Texas; Jim Ivins and wife Bonnie of Denton, Texas; J.C. Ivins and wife Sharon of Saint Jo, Texas; Roy Don Ivins and wife Sharion of Lubbock, Texas; sisters Gladys Burhans and husband Stu of Overland Park, Kansas; Virginia Ivins of Greenville, Texas; as well as four grandchildren, Lindsey Ivins of Seminole, Texas,; McKenzie Ivins and Caden Kacal of Austin, Texas; Logan Ivins and wife Coral of Aubrey, Texas; & Rylie Ivins of Lubbock, Texas; and many nieces and nephews.
