Loretta Jean O'Neill

July 24, 1937 — October 23, 2022

Loretta Jean O'Neill, 85, passed away Sunday, October 23,2022 after an extended illness. Loretta was born 07/24/1937 in Safford, AZ to James Marshall and Willia Maudie Callahan.


Loretta moved to Plains, Texas in 1985 with her husband Kenneth B. O'Neill. She worked at Plains State Bank as a bank teller until her retirement in 1998. She loved being a school bus driver for Plains ISD and all the children loved her.

Loretta was actively involved with the First Baptist Church Disaster Team. She was with the Team in New York City after 911, worked with them in Colorado during the Hayman Fires, and also served in Louisiana after Hurricane Katrina.


Loretta is survived by 3 children, Norman L. Bangle, Jr. and wife Sandra of Livingston, TX; Debbie J. Smith-Marion and husband Randy Marion of Plains, TX; and Pamela S. Valdes of Plains, TX. One Sister, Juanita Parker of Weiser, ID and sister-in-law Myra Callahan of Lake Havasu, AZ, 9 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, and 5 great great grandchildren.


She was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth B. O'Neill; her daughter, Sherry Lynn Rosenbaum, her parents, James M. Callahan and Willia Maudie Callahan Roper, three brothers, James S. Callahan, Landon Dean Callahan, and Gerald Wayne Callahan, and great grandson, Gideon Daniel Smith.


Graveside Services under the direction of Ratliff Funeral Home will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, October 27, 2022 at Plains Cemetery in Plains, TX


In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Interim Hospice of Lubbock, TX or a charity of your choice.
