June Lea Smith

Surrounded by loved ones, June Lea Smith, 77, of Seagraves, Texas passed away Sunday, January 8, 2023 of natural causes. June is survived by her sisters, Joyce Estes and Judy Green; her brother-in-law James Green; her nieces Stephanee Arrington, Mia Estes, Debbie Donaldson, and Vanessa Green; and her nephew David Green.

June was born to R.C. and Grace Smith on May 3, 1945 in Los Angeles, CA and grew up in Seagraves, TX. A graduate of Seagraves High School, June attended Lubbock Christian College and graduated from Sul Ross State University. She worked very hard all of her life and enjoyed successful careers in both law enforcement and education.

A patriotic American, June was a part of a small group of women who volunteered to serve in the Vietnam War through the Red Cross Supplemental Recreation Activities Overseas program—better known as the Donut Dollies. Armed with smiles and hand-made games, June and the Donut Dollies risked their lives every day to achieve their mission of cheering up and bringing a sense of home to the U.S. troops.

June loved to travel and spend time with family and friends; and strove to be of service to others in their times of need. June will be laid to rest with her mother and father in their family plot in Seagraves, Texas
