J.P. (John Paul) Senter Passed away October 31, 2025, at his home on the State Line. J.P. was born August 9, 1937, on his parents’ kitchen table near Burleson, Texas. His parents were John Byron and Callie Sue Senter. He graduated from Grandview High School in 1955 and graduated from Texas Tech University in 1960 with a degree in Agriculture. His first job was as the assistant county agent position in Hopkins county. He and his wife moved from there to Lamesa, Texas where he started Shoestring Cattle Company, farmed, ranched and ran wheat pasture cattle. He was an order buyer for years and was well respected by all the ranches he bought cattle from because of his honesty and quick wit. He moved to Yoakum County in 1988 where he continued to order buy, operated a you-pick-it garden and run wheat pasture cattle. He also worked for the Texas Boll Weevil Foundation for several years. At the ripe old age of 70 he embarked on a new career and sold Pasture Range and Forage Insurance for Matlock and Associates for the next 17 years.
JP was preceded in death by his parents John Byron and Callie Sue Senter, first wife Sissy (Koger) Senter, brother Dick Senter, grandchildren Teegan and Tori Senter and Jacque Speers.
J.P. is survived by his sons John Senter and wife Robin, Charles “Chuck” Senter and his wife Toyia, sister Sue Hughes and husband Danny, dear partner Peggy Black and grandchildren Ryland Senter, Sutton Senter, Sayer Senter and fiancé Eli DeLong and Seaver Senter.
There will be a visitation for family and friends at Ratliff Funeral Home Chapel in Denver City, Texas on Wednesday, November 5 from 5:30-7:30. Graveside services will be at Grandview Cemetery in Grandview, Texas on Friday November 7, at 11:00 am.
