Denver City, Texas — Gerald Dale Carter, 87, of Denver City, Texas, passed away on Thursday, March 26, 2026, in Denver City. Viewing will be held on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM in the Ratliff Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, at 10:00 AM at First Baptist Church with Rev. Philip Golden officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Ratliff Funeral Homes.

Dale was born on June 18, 1938, in Plainview, Texas, to L.C. Carter and Marie Hupp. On December 10, 1956, he married the love of his life, Florene Elizabeth Roberson, in Plainview. Together they built a life marked by dedication to family, community, and service.

In 1977 Dale and Florene started a family owned business Dales Venture Food, which is now known as Thriftway. From there he expanded the family business to Hobbs, New Mexico, with two locations La Tienda and Thriftway where he is known for his strong work ethic and commitment. He faithfully served his community in many capacities, including as a member of the DCISD Board from 1981 to 1995. He became board president in 1986 and served in that role until 1995, helping guide and shape the future of local education.

He was a member of several civic organizations in Denver City, the Denver City Lions Club and Chamber of Commerce where he was honored as Ambassador of the Year by the Chamber of Commerce in 1984. In recognition of his outstanding contributions to the community, he was named Citizen of the Year in 1994. Dale also served on the Board of Directors of Affiliated Foods and Tri State Bakery, where he served as president. In his free time, he enjoyed playing golf and spending time with those he loved.

Dale is survived by his daughter, Tanya Warren and husband Dennis; his son, Tommy Carter and wife Charlotte; four grandchildren, Jasen Carter, Justin Carter, Rowdy Warren, and Randi Demel; and six great-grandchildren, Kooper Carter, Gunner Carter, Haydyn Demel, Kace Demel, Carter Warren, and Waylon Warren all of whom were a source of great pride and joy in his life.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Florene Elizabeth Carter, who passed away on July 19, 2019; three brothers; and two sisters.

Dale will be remembered for his servant’s heart, his leadership, and his lasting impact on the community he faithfully served.
