Erma Maurine Jones

Erma Maurine Jones was called home by her Lord and Savior on Saturday, February 21st at the age of 85. She grew up in Seagraves and graduated from Seagraves High School. She attended Eastern New Mexico College in Portales, New Mexico, then Lubbock Christian University where she earned her Bachelor’s degree in Teaching. Maurine married Ross Jones on December 18, 1960, and recently celebrated 65 years of marriage.

Maurine taught Home Economics at Seagraves High School for 30 years. She was a member of 12th Street Church of Christ in Seagraves. Maurine had a true servants heart in helping others any way she could. In her earlier years she was always ready to prepare a meal for a family losing a loved one, someone going through an illness, or birth of a child. She loved serving in this way. Her life was characterized by her love and devotion to her family and her community. Her selfless acts of love and kindness will not soon be forgotten.

She became a grandma in 1998 which was her most beloved title. She loved spending time with family, and most of all her precious grandchildren.

Maurine is preceded in death by her parents Autry and Katherine Petty, one sister Kay Faulker, and one grandson, Evan Steward.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband Ross Jones of Seagraves, daughters Suzanne Jones of Seagraves and Lisa Steward (Lloyd) of Lubbock, one granddaughter Alyssa Steward of Austin, Texas, sisters Mary Lois Ellyson, and Nadine Hart both of Seagraves, one brother James Petty (Jennifer) of Lubbock, and several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank Kimberly Lopez with Calvert Home Health for her diligent care over the last 3 years.

Services will be held at 12th Street Church of Christ at 2:00p.m. Friday 27th followed by Graveside Service at Seagraves Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Seagraves Sr. Citizens Center.
