Enrique “Henry” Hernandez, Sr. was born on March 25, 1932 in Cuero, Texas to Francisco and Maria (Benavidez) Hernandez. He passed away surrounded by family on March 12, 2022 in Fort Worth, Texas.
Henry spent most of his childhood in South Texas working on farms to help support his family. As a young man, he was employed for over ten years by the Santa Fe Railroad based out of Abernathy, Texas. In 1972, he moved his family to Denver City, Texas where he worked in the oil fields until his retirement in 1994. He continued to work several years part time in a local chile factory and volunteered his time at St. William Catholic Church.
Henry had a great love for his family and demonstrated a strong work ethic his entire life. Despite challenging times throughout his life, including the unexpected loss of his first wife, he more than provided for all his children and was their “utmost protector” to the very end. Unbeknownst to him, he passed on a resilient nature to all of his children. He had a great love for baseball and westerns, especially John Wayne movies.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 15 years, Julia Ponce; his parents, his brothers Manuel and Tomas; and his sister Frances Ruiz.
Henry is survived by his wife of 52 years Alicia Aguirre; his sons Richard (Mary), Fernando, and Enrique Jr. (Theresa); daughters Estella, Dora (Scott) Howard, and Diana (Michael) Row; grandsons Eric (Tarah) Duarte and Evan Hernandez; granddaughters Faith, Sara, and Sydney; great grandsons Ian, Eli, and Noah; and siblings Amelia Cantu, Janie (Frank) Davila, Soila (Cecil) Robles, Gloria (Merijildo) DeLeon, Frank (Lydia), and Dolores Lara.
"He will wipe every tear from their eyes and there will be no more death or crying or pain. All these things are gone forever.” -
