Dorene Allen

May 11, 1933 — Jun 27, 2026

Weatherford

Letha Dorene Allen was welcomed into the world on May 11, 1933, in Gaines County, born to Virgil Marion and Velta Reise Briggs. On Tuesday, June 23, 2026, from Weatherford, Texas, she stepped into her heavenly home, just weeks after celebrating her 93rd birthday surrounded by the loving embrace of her family.

Dorene was a proud graduate of Seminole High School, and with her characteristic determination, she began her career at Seminole State Bank almost immediately. On April 28, 1952, she married JW Allen, and together they built a beautiful family, raising their two sons, William Don and Ronald Gregg.

A trailblazer in her field, Dorene dedicated over 45 years to Seminole State Bank and First National Bank, ultimately retiring as an Executive Vice President, a remarkable achievement reflecting her hard work and perseverance. Retirement, however, simply opened the door to a new chapter of joy, as she devoted her time to her cherished grandchildren. Known lovingly as “Grandma,” she was the heart of every celebration, hosting holidays, birthdays, and life’s special moments with warmth and grace. Her kitchen was a place of comfort and delight, and she became especially famous for her delicious blueberry muffins.

Never one to slow down, Dorene returned to the workforce in 2004 to support her son Don in establishing a new business. She continued working faithfully until her “final retirement” in 2023 at the incredible age of 90.

Beyond her family and career, Dorene’s love for music brought her great joy and fulfillment. She was an integral member of the Seminole Music Club and faithfully served as Financial Secretary and Treasurer for the Texas division of the National Federation of Music Clubs, sharing her talents and passion for assisting the growth of many young musicians.

Dorene is reunited in heaven with her husband JW, her parents, her sister Laverne, and her brothers Waymon and Wendal. She leaves behind a legacy of love in her surviving family: her sisters JoAnn Mack of Hobbs, New Mexico; Beverly LaMunyon of Jacksonville, Florida; and June Carter of Midland, Texas; her sons Don and wife Kathy of Lubbock, Texas, and Gregg and wife Sharon of Weatherford, Texas. She also leaves six grandchildren—Jeremy, Taylor, Travis, Tate, Cason, and Kelsey and three greatgrandchildren—London, Lilly, and Avett.

Dorene’s life will be honored with a graveside celebration at Gaines County Memorial Cemetery on July 3 at 11:00 a.m., with Rev. Joe Stewart officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Ratliff Funeral Home in Seminole.

Her life was an amazing testimony of family, faith, music, and unwavering love and her legacy will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of all who knew her.
