David Middleton Shelton

1938 — 2026

Seminole

David Middleton Shelton went to be with his Lord and Savior on May 5, 2026. David was born February 1, 1938, to C.V. and Gladys Shelton in Merkle, Texas. His family moved to Seminole in 1948. He graduated from Seminole High School in 1956 and attended Texas Tech University until 1959 when he was drafted by the U.S. Army. He served in Korea, was discharged in 1961, then went to West Texas State University (WTSU) in Canyon. He was recalled to the Army during the Berlin Crisis and served another year in Fort Polk, LA before returning to WTSU.

David married the love of his life and best friend Ann McMurry on December 28, 1963. They both graduated from WTSU in January, 1964 and moved to Alpine, Texas where they finished their master’s degrees. They took jobs in Fort Stockton, Texas ISD in 1965, where David was a teacher, principal, curriculum director, Assistant Superintendent, and Interim Superintendent. He also worked in Iraan, Texas as Superintendent, Junior High Principal, and Business Manager after retiring. He worked at Sul Ross University as a Student Teacher Supervisor.

David was a Decon and Elder in the First Presbyterian Church in Ft. Stockton, worked with Evening Lions club over 25 years, was a Melven Jones Fellow, and supported the Texas Lions’ Camp for Children in Kerrville. David and Ann loved living in Fort Stockton, the schools and people, and especially loved raising their two sons there and following their activities.

They moved back to Seminole in 2005 where they farmed until their retirement. David served as Elder of Presbyterian Church, delivered Meals on Wheels with Ann and volunteered at Bob Lewis Mission.

Preceding him in death are his parents C.V. and Gladys Shelton, his wife Ann Shelton, sister and brother-in-law, Nan and Harvey Wallen, brother-in-law Charlie Benson, and niece Amy Wallen Pritchett.

David is survived by his two sons Bob Shelton of Orlando, FL and Ben Shelton (Angela) and two grandsons Logan and Sam Shelton of Lexington, KY, sister-in-law Jeannie Benson of Corpus Christi, TX, and nieces and nephews.

David loved serving the Lord and other people. He prayed daily and believed in “love God, love one another.” He often told people his coined phrase, “Jesus loves you and so do I.”
