David Ross Jones passed away peacefully on September 18, 2026, at the age of 88. He was born on June 11, 1938, to Bryan and Mildred Jones in Loop, Texas. Ross attended Loop ISD and graduated from the Loop Class of 1956. He then attended Hardin Simmons University in Abilene, Texas.
Ross married the love of his life, Maurine Petty on December 18, 1960. They made their first home in Clovis, New Mexico. Ross did carpentry work while Maurine attended Eastern New Mexico University in Portales, New Mexico. Later they would make their permanent home in Seagraves.
Ross then went on to follow in his dad Bryan's footsteps and became a cotton farmer. He farmed in the Seagraves-Loop community for over 40 years. He was a Board member of the TriCounty Producers Co-op Gin, formerly known as Loop Co-op Gin from 1975 to 2004.
He enjoyed taking his family on yearly trips to Cloudcroft, New Mexico, which in his heart became his home away from home. He so enjoyed the serenity of the beautiful mountains. After retiring, Ross enjoyed tending his vegetable garden and spending time with family.
Ross was a man of few words, but had a quick wit and dry sense of humor that was enjoyed by those who knew him best. His gentle presence will be deeply missed, and his legacy will live on in the hearts of those who loved him. He will be forever remembered for his hard work ethic, integrity, humility, and quiet strength.
Ross is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 65 years, Maurine Jones, daughter Suzanne Jones, his parents Bryan and Mildred Jones, sister-in-law Carolyn Jones, and one grandson Evan Steward.
Those left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Lisa Steward and husband Lloyd of Lubbock, one granddaughter Alyssa Steward of Austin, one brother Perry Jones and wife Joanne of Lubbock, one sister Joyce Wright and husband Bennie of Cleburne, and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 26th at 12th Street Church of Christ in Seagraves, with Graveside service to follow at Seagraves Gaines County Cemetary. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Seagraves Senior Citizens Center.
