Casey Dean Peevy

1979 — 2026

California

Casey Dean Peevy was born on March 12, 1979, in Andrews Texas, to Kim Hanson and Burl Dean Peevy. He passed away suddenly on January 23, 2026, in Irvine, California, at the age of 46.

Casey spent his early years in Denver City, where he grew up surrounded by family, friends, and Texas sunshine. He graduated from Denver City High School in 1997 and later earned his Associate’s Degree from South Plains College in 2007. Growing up in West Texas, it’s no surprise he developed a deep love for football. Casey played varsity during high school and was a lifelong Dallas Cowboys fan—game days always meant his Romo jersey, plenty of excitement, and his famous words: “This is their year!” (every single year).

His love for people and animals shaped his career path. Casey started out working at Animal Medical Center in Lubbock as a kennel manager, caring deeply for every animal he met. In 2007, he took his compassion in a new direction, joining Dr. Sharon Decker at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center as a medical simulation technician. His work in medical simulation became one of his true callings. After moving to Southern California in 2011, he continued to share his skills and heart with students at Brandman University and later at UC Irvine School of Nursing. Those who worked with Casey remember his patience, humor, and genuine love for helping others learn and grow.

Outside of work, Casey had a huge love for music. He was always listening to something new, talking about bands, or heading out to a live show with friends. Movies were another big part of his world—he could outsmart any trivia challenge and had a quote ready for nearly every occasion. He also loved the ocean. Whether diving off the shore in San Clemente or exploring the reefs of Bonaire and Cozumel, Casey felt completely at home underwater. Days spent at the beach were some of his happiest.

Casey will be remembered most for his kindness, quick wit, and open heart. He had a way of making people feel seen, valued, and loved. He leaves behind his father Burl Dean Peevy, stepmother Stacy Peevy, brother Cody Peevy and partner Carrie Pharris, and dear friend Alexandra Tovar. He is preceded in death by his mother Kim Hanson, paternal grandparents Burl and Faye Peevy, maternal grandparents S.M. and Pat Hanson, and his beloved dogs Astrid and Barnabe.

Casey touched the lives of everyone who knew him. His laughter, loyalty, and warmth will be missed beyond words—but the memories and stories left behind will keep his spirit shining brightly in all who loved him.

On May 9th at 10:00 AM, family and friends will gather for a Celebration of Life services at Ratliff Funeral Home in Denver City, then complete laying Casey to rest by scattering the remainder of his ashes in the Pacific near San Clemente, California—the place he loved to be and where he felt most at peace.

Lovingly composed by longtime friend Lynn Shotwell.
