Funeral Services for Bobby Lewis Fred, 87, of Denver City, Texas, will be held at 11:00 A.M., Thursday, September 8, 2022, in the First Baptist Church with Rev. Kyle Streun and Rev. Bob Webb officiating, with interment following in the Denver City Memorial Park under the direction of Ratliff Funeral Home of Denver City.
Bobby passed away Saturday, September 3, 2022, in Denver City, TX.
Bobby was born April 27, 1935, in Levelland, Texas to Louis and Zelma Fred. Bobby graduated from Morton High School as the class Valedictorian. Bobby married Helen Williamson on June 17, 1955 in Pettit, Texas. He graduated from Wayland Baptist University and received his Masters from West Texas State University. He was a teacher for the Denver City ISD and there he taught English until his retirement. Bobby served his county in the United States Air Force from 1958 to 1962. Bob was a member of First Baptist Church in Denver City for 58 years and served faithfully alongside Helen in many capacities including as an active deacon from 1978 to 2018. He will be greatly missed by the many people that he touched as a teacher and as a person, along with the family and friends that loved him.
Helen was the love of his life for 68 years and he gave himself for her as Christ gave Himself for the church. He loved his children as well as his extended family and sacrificed so much for them. As Mr. Fred, he greatly enjoyed teaching and loved his students and believed in them more than they believed in themselves. He especially had a heart for the students that many others in the school system and society had written off as beyond help. Although he never pastored as a profession, he pastored so many in Denver City; students, fellow teachers, neighbors, church members, friends and family alike. All who had the privilege of knowing him, were blessed by his encouragement and love. He represented Christ everywhere he went and in all that he did. Almost every time you left his home, he would stretch out his hand and say “Let’s pray before you go.” Saturday, September 3rd 2022 was, no doubt, his greatest day as he entered into the presence of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and heard those precious words: “Well done good and faithful servant.”
Bobby was preceded in death by his parents; his two brothers Troy Fred, Keith Fred; his three sisters Jean Lindsey, Dell Fred, Gaylene Hooper.
Bobby is survived by his wife Helen Fred of the home; three sons Terry Fred and his wife Sherrie of Reno, Nevada, Kenny Fred and his wife Donna of Smithville, Mark Fred and his wife Karen of Lubbock; a daughter Janet Fusco and her husband Robert of Orlando, Florida; two sisters Louise Newton and Jaunell Morris both of Levelland; one sisters-in-law Nadine Fred Taylor of Plano; along with eight grandchildren; twenty-two great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren.
