Billy Sides, 83, passed away on Friday, February 2, 2024, at Shinnery Oaks Community in Denver City.
Billy was born on April 24, 1940, in Gorman, Texas to Bill & Gladys Sides. The family moved to Denver City in 1951. Bill was a graduate of Denver City High School. He worked on the Olan Cox Ranch and was employed by David Bruton for many years in the oilfield company.
He loved the Denver City Mustangs and Fillies. He seldom missed a sporting event or school activity. He could be found on the sidelines of the football field, running chains and yard markers; on the bench at basketball games, keeping the books or the score; or assisting at track meets. He thoroughly enjoyed riding the Mustang bus to out-of-town games. “Coach Bill” was awarded the DCHS letter jacket which he proudly wore.
He was a long-time member of the First United Methodist Church, Denver City, and attended regularly.
Billy is survived by his brother, Eddie, and wife Mary Anne, of Abilene, Texas; his sister Diane McDaniel, of Athens, Alabama; and his sister Donna Hill, of Henderson, Nevada. Beloved nieces and nephews include Donna Rene Greener, David Hill, Stephen Sides, Patton Sides, Martha Huber, and Mike McDaniel, and their families.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother John.
The family thanks the staff at Shinnery Oaks Community for their loving and attentive care of Bill.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to First Methodist Church or Senior Citizens Center.
