In Loving Memory of Betty Medlin

Betty Jean Medlin, 82, born July 24, 1944, was surrounded by her loving family when she went to be with our Lord and Savior on Saturday, August 1, 2026.

Betty Medlin was born to B.A. McFarland and Emma Guynes McFarland at their family home in Draw, TX. She always had a great work ethic and even had her first job outside of the house at age 12. She worked at multiple businesses around Seagraves, from Garlands to Porter Pharmacy. When she was working as a carhop at Garlands at age 15, she met the love of her life, Charles. They were married on September 2, 1965, and she became a devoted helpmate to her husband. Later she had 3 wonderful children whom she adored. Betty enjoyed working outside of the home, but knew that the most important job was raising her children. She spent most of her years as a wonderful, loving mother and a meticulous bookkeeper.

Betty devoted her life to caring for her family and others. She loved the outdoors and spent many hours tending her garden, planting flowers, taking daily walks, and enjoying her pool with her family. She was a gifted seamstress and crocheter, creating everything from treasured blankets to elaborate costumes and countless handmade keepsakes. She was also a wonderful cook, lovingly preparing daily meals for her family on the farm. She found great joy in hosting tea parties, gathering with family, and making special occasions memorable.

Betty was a faithful member of Loop Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir, helped with church meals, and kept the church books. She was faithful in taking her children and grandchildren to church regularly and making it feel like a special outing. She was intentional and understood the importance of building a foundation in Christ from a young age.

Betty is survived by her husband, Charles Medlin; her sons, Brent Medlin and wife Suzanne of Lamesa, TX and Bobby Medlin and wife Shelby of Loop, TX; 9 grand: Kandace McClellan and husband Ross, Haley Goode and husband Ethan, Leah Kacena and husband Ben, Lindy Morris and husband Logan, Clayton Medlin, Tatum Medlin, Kinley Medlin, Kyle Kaufman, and Macy Kaufman, and 8 great-grandchildren; sister Barbara Abbott and husband Wayne and sister-in-law Irene McFarland; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her beloved daughter Wendy Kaufman, parents, B.A. McFarland and Emma Guynes McFarland, her sister Billie King, and her brother Bobby McFarland.

Although Betty will be deeply missed, her family finds comfort in knowing she has found peace and rejoices in the presence of her savior. Her love, wisdom, and example will continue to live on through those who knew her. She will be remembered for her willingness to help wherever needed, her work ethic, and her caring soul. Some will remember her by a name that came later in life and held many cherished memories, “Grammie.”
