Betty J. Land Obituary

Betty J. Land, 86, was peaceful called home by her heavenly Father, Tuesday, March 04, 2025.

Betty was born on November 13, 1938 to Clarence and Bessie (Brasher) Sorenson in Saint Paul, Texas.

Betty lived in several towns in Texas during her life, then settled in Denver City in the early 1960’s. She moved to Kansas in August 2019 to live near her daughter Debbie.

She loved to cook and worked at several restaurants in Denver City. She served as a crossing guard at the Kelley Dodson Elementary school and also worked in the nursery at The First Baptist Church. Betty was a loyal worker, with a great work ethic and was loved by everyone she worked with. She was always willing to help others and will be lovingly remembered and missed by her family and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, many brothers and sisters; her husband Don E. Land of Denver City, Texas and son Terry Gene Childress of Lubbock, Texas.

Betty is survived by four daughters, Betty Ann Daugherty and husband Jim of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Debbie Barr and husband Steven of Scott City, Kansas; Brenda Chambers and husband Chris of Georgetown, Texas; Shonda Childress of Goldsmith, Texas; one son Ricky Madison of Andrews, Texas; one brother Larry Sorenson and wife Norma of Dallas Texas; 18 grandchildren; many great grandchildren and even a couple great, great grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life is planned for Saturday, May 3rd at 1:00 pm at the Ratliff Funeral home in Denver City, Texas.
