Funeral Services for Berniece “Bea” Barnes, 94, of Seminole, Texas, will be held at 11:00 A.M., Monday, August 15, 2022, in the First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Dennis Haralson and Rev. Charles George officiating, under the direction of Ratliff Funeral Home, Seminole, Texas.
Berniece “Bea” Barnes, 94, of Seminole passed from this life on Wednesday, August 10, 2022, in Lubbock, TX. Bea was born April 30, 1928, in Reed, OK, to John Wesley and Etna Ann (White) Martin. She was the oldest of five children. She graduated from Reed High School in 1945 and continued on to Southwestern State College in Weatherford, OK, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Education in 1951. Shortly thereafter, Bea began her first teaching job in Weatherford, OK, teaching High School Business. After moving to Gruver, TX, in the mid 1950’s, Bea met the love of her life, Roy Lynn Barnes, to whom she would marry on June 19, 1960, in Mangum, OK. Bea and Roy Lynn were married for 60 years until his death in 2020.
It wasn’t long after the wedding before Bea and Roy Lynn would become parents to a baby girl, Deborah Gay, in 1961. A year later, the new family of three moved to Seminole, where they would make their home for the next 60 years. That same year, Bea completed her Master’s in Education from Western State College in Gunnison, CO. In 1964, Bea gave birth to her son, Martin Lynn. Bea loved reading and sewing, often sewing clothes for her two children. The family often enjoyed trips to the lake where she loved to fish and spend time out on the boat. She taught at Seminole ISD where she inspired many until retiring after 42 years. Bea spent her retirement living out her faith by sharing the love of Christ with everyone she encountered. She served in various roles at First Presbyterian Church of Seminole, including as an Elder for many years. Bea and Roy Lynn spent the latter part of their lives traveling around the world, often with their children, grandchildren, and friends, exploring the Andes Mountains in Peru, the Jungles & Beaches of Mexico, the Outback of Australia, and the vibrant culture of South Korea, among others. Bea’s favorite time was spent with her family, especially her four prized grandchildren.
Bea is preceded in death by her husband Roy Lynn Barnes; parents John Wesley & Etna Martin; brothers Doug Martin, Gene Martin, and Dean Martin; sister Reba Lane; and many friends whom she loved dearly.
Those who will continue to cherish her legacy are son Martin Barnes of Seminole; daughter Debbie McDaniel and husband Kent McDaniel of Monahans; daughter-in-law Christi Barnes of Seminole; grandchildren Brantley McDaniel of Irving, Kelly McDaniel of San Antonio, David Barnes of Seminole, and John Wesley Barnes of Seminole; and the many hearts she touched over her 94 years
