J. Arnold Vogt

Funeral Services for J. Arnold Vogt, 93, of Denver City, Texas, will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, September 24, 2026, at First Baptist Church, with Rev. Ricky Galvan officiating and under the direction of Ratliff Funeral Home of Denver City. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, September 26, at the Mennonite Brethren Cemetery in Corn, Oklahoma, with Rev. Tim Sandy officiating and under the direction of Kiesau-Lee Funeral Home of Clinton, OK. Arnold passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, September 16, 2022, in Denver City, TX.

J. Arnold Vogt was born July 5, 1933, in Corn, Oklahoma. He was the youngest of four children born to Henry J. and Mary Magdalene Penner Vogt. At an early age, Arnold felt the need for salvation, and was saved and baptized into the Mennonite Brethern Chuch in Corn, Oklahoma. He was married to Nina Pearl Krewall on July 18, 1954, in Corn, Oklahoma. This union was blessed with three children: Audra Nichole, Jason Anthony, and Tiffany Yvette. Arnold was born and raised on the farm, and when he and Nina were married, they continued to farm until their retirement.

Upon graduating from Southwestern State University in Weatherford, Oklahoma, with a master’s degree, he taught Jet Mechanics at the Amarillo Air Base, after which he was drafted into the Army. He was stationed at Aberdeen Proving Ground in Maryland, where he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant First Class.

After serving in the Army, he began his teaching and coaching career in Alfalfa, Oklahoma. His next career move was as high school principal at Gotebo, Oklahoma.

From there, he and Nina moved to Phoenix, Arizona, because Nina’s parents, Harry and Martha Krewall, were both in bad health, so Arnold got a job teaching at Camelback High School. Nina and Arnold, along with her parents, helped establish the Palm Glen Neighborhood Church. During this time, their first child was born, and they named her Audra Nichole.

After several years, Nina’s parents moved back to Weatherford, Oklahoma, so Arnold and Nina did too. While they lived in Weatherford, Arnold and Nina and her parents helped establish the Pine Acres Church. While they farmed and raised cattle, their second child, Jason Anthony, was born.

Their next move was to Denver City, Texas, in 1970, where Arnold began teaching high school math until he retired in 1998. The next year, Nina’s dad died during open-heart surgery in Oklahoma City, so Nina’s mother came to live with them. In 1972, Tiffany Yvette was born. All three children were raised and educated in Denver City.

During the week of December 6, 1997, Arnold had a heart attack while working at school, and on December 13, he had open-heart surgery in Lubbock. In May 1998, he and Nina retired from teaching and farming. Arnold taught for 42 years. Nina taught for 23 years. After retiring, Arnold and Nina traveled and were frequent visitors at their grandchildren’s activities and sports.

One of Arnold and Nina’s most memorable occasions was when they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with their children and grandchildren at Surfside Beach near Houston.

J. Arnold is preceded in death by his beautiful bride of 68 years, Nina Pearl (Krewall) Vogt. He is survived by two daughters, Audra Hooker, and her husband, Shannon, of Midland, TX, Tiffany Telesca and her husband, Ben, of Alpine, TX, a son, Jason Vogt, of Denver City, TX, along with five grandchildren, Savannah Hooker Stewart and husband, Sean, of West Columbia, TX, Dane Hooker and wife, Katie, of Midland, TX, Barkley Hooker and fiancee’ Kristin, of Houston, TX, Tristan Telesca and wife, Nicole, of Alexandria, VA, currently deployed, Alexander Telesca, of Alexandria, VA, and six great-grandchildren, Weston Stewart, Bronson Stewart, Landon Stewart, Madelyn Hooker, Jack Shannon Hooker, and Mark Morgan Hooker.

The family would like to extend their most sincere gratitude to Esmeralda Torres, Melissa Acosta, and Maria Ochoa for their exceptional care, dedication, and the love shown to Arnold for the past three years.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, September 23, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM, with the family receiving visitors from 6:00–7:30 PM in the Ratliff Funeral Home Chapel of Denver City, TX.

Visitation will be held Friday, September 25, 2026, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM,

at the Kiesau-Lee Funeral Home in Clinton, OK.
